It arises from the torments of youth who have not yet found peace, resolution and affection. Menotti is laid bare to reach maturity, which now is coming. He has written several collections of poetry, as in the grip of a bulimia of verses. A writing, his running through people, things and feelings, like a mole that needs to feed on different food and Healing gels. With the memory returns to dig, once again, in the past, groped for the "settling" of those wounds that healed though, have left irrefutable signs. Lerro cultivates a non-violent form of rebellion but turban, which now finally is reaching a form of self-absolution for sins still not attributable to him, but suffered. Research that identifies the need for forgiveness that can not find, because it is not a pardon to himself, nor be attributed to someone else. That's life, with its complexity and as much of the mystery that you can sense but not explain, have to be forgiven. The thought of the night that unmasks pretense and hypocrisy can not find peace, quiet, legitimate references for a renaissance. But it is the rebirth that sucks his poetry. The path seems even longer. Meanwhile all things, all people, all the emotions, that pass under his lens of analysis, become relics for a future and final "settling" as reconciliation with oneself and the world. Even love is under observation, ( "I am overflowing with love / sweetness of songs rancore./ Under the overwhelming meats / my boil"). Even God is questioned without waiting for a reply ( "I believe that God invented us / to show and share / boundless loneliness"). And it is the same poem - when the author testifies to dial in the nights when'll never want to compose - that forced him to do it, to live it. He, in short, intense premise, speaks of these texts as "stragglers children, raving, alcoholics", but necessary. As if they were born without the will to create them. But this is deceptive self-delusion. Menotti Lerro is a poet of the discomfort and the desire to overcome it. And strangely from this contradiction did your best, so far, poetic evidence. I suggest you read the following three poems:
Sabato sera.
Fiume di fuoco nel corpo.
Le pareti iniziano a parlarmi, esco.
La giungla mi attrae e mi protegge.
Al confine delle bianche strisce
leoni in agguato.
Poi l’orango mi sorprende,
fuga, tunnel infernale.
Nei canali s’allungano anaconde,
puntuali alligatori sperano
in una nuova preda, tuffo risolutore,
vittima sacrificale.
‘Non io, che non vivo’, penso.
‘Non io quest’anno, questa notte…
che mi sento Dio.’
Parlo solo, sogghigno, torno serio.
Con l’ombrello benedico
i passanti: non si ribellano,
né mostrano paura.
Sangue di lucertola,
se occorre una pistola.

Gli sciacalli invadono le strade
in cerca di teneri batuffoli o di fangosi
leoni solitari pronti al sacrificio
dell’ultima battaglia.
Già roteanti spettri del crudo cielo
ne bramano i brandelli
che resterebbero a imputridire
sulle ossa infestando l’aria,
traforato vascello di guerra.
Il diavolo e l’inferno che tememmo
in vita s’avvampano ogni giorno
manna improvvisa dall’alto.

Notte.
Mi allungo con la goccia perfetta
sulle labbra. Mi fa ridere e tremare
il soffitto che proietta il film iridescente
della mia vita.
È notte.
Via Arzaga non sa darsi pace
per aver perso il giorno.
