The case of Maximian and his Elegie della vecchiaia is perhaps unique in the whole of Latin literature. Meanwhile, you do not know, except for scattered traces in his verses, any significant detail of his life, that is the exact period of his existence, his true home, his own full name. Above all, there is no clear advice on the value of this literary and poetic anthology of poems that is located in a rhetorical tradition of the most standardized of the entire Roman literature: the elegy of love - with its strict alternation metric hexameter and pentameter - which has its golden age in the Augustan Age and the early years of the Tiberian (Tibullus, Propertius, Ovid).
