For too long, the poetry of Theocritus was designed to mere academic studies or relegated to the genre "bucolic", and his opera production shows rather surprising new elements and a modern sensibility, from the ability to witness their time without nostalgic retreat on past and without attempting to conquer a social privilege through the lure of power. His poetry is vigorous, glossy, the fruit of a sure grasp of techne more refined: the tireless chasing of the verse, never declared, leading to a seemingly simple but refined literary language, that unites the evocation of a mythical past and the popular tone of city scenes, the highest and the conversational style register, nell'esametro time of the Homeric tradition, which becomes flexible and adapted to receive dorismi and dialect. There is no room for descriptive nor for redundancy scholarly: the vividness of the images, like pictures with a life of its own, reflects the realistic attention to everyday life, combined with an introspective analysis always accurate.
