Considered by all to be lost, the “Lighthouse” was found
intact in the attic of their birth home by Enrica and Lorenzo
Borelli and, eighty years after its publication, it returns today to
radiate its light. Printed from June 1944 to the months following
to the Liberation, the forty-five issues of the newspaper
of the Catholic Men's Association “San Giustino” of
Grignasco represent a unique and “in
direct take” of the spiritual ‘awakening’ and commitment to the
apostolate of young Catholics and their priest Assistants in the
decisive period of the Resistance in Italy.
With their work, the Authors intend to restore to us the originality
enthusiasm and vitality of those young people as it transpires
from the rich pages of their journal. Thanks to research that is dense with
memory and enhanced by numerous documents images and testimonies
oral, they also allow us to shed light on the history
of the “San Giustino” Association of Grignasco from the
reconstruction of the Circle after the Great War to the opening
of the Oratory in the late 1950s, as well as on the
figure of Dino Borelli, Delegate Aspirants protagonist of the Lighthouse and,
later, of the Grignasco Parish Community.
A valuable and indispensable book to know the life of Azione
Catholic Action and the Parish of Grignasco during the different
and difficult seasons that characterized the 20th century and,
through this, the identity and witness of Catholics in
Valsesia and in the Diocese of Novara.
