This volume contains the proceedings of the international conference "Cities have a soul" which took place in March 2016 and March 2017 in Livorno.
The conferences have been promoted by the Sant'Egidio Community for the development of relations between the Mediterranean cities, and with the intent to direct reflection on the ongoing change highlighting, with a look to the future, the need for new opportunities choices that open and difficulties that are experienced.
Mediterranean cities, in particular, are now collectors in life expectancy and the future, affecting many in the world and arriving on the coasts through migration and trade and cultural, from at least three continents.
In this context, their profile is of particular importance; almost finding a new protagonist, Mediterranean cities may, for their specific culture, to suggest ways, old and new, to build bridges on fractures, to consolidate interdependencies between North and South, between East and West.
