Singing the Hypogeum precludes an anticipatory assumption: that there exists an epigeum of a luminous and fundamental nature, according to the principle of juxtaposed opposites that arrange motion, endowed with antithetical energy.
The Great Motor would like – wants – the high and the low to be separated, and the Carme must therefore transcend or descend. The choice is sad but necessary. Nevertheless, there is no founding voice to tell us what and where salvation lies, what paths are viable, however tumultuous: to seek a decapitated dawn, a blessed corruption, and not the preached light that, ecphrastically, allows all art to be canonised, is here the only key handed over to the spiteful reader (Diego Riccobene).
