Ciancio Maria Pina

Maria Pina Ciancio of Lucanian origin was born in Switzerland in 1965. She lives in San Severino Lucano, taught for many years in Chiaromonte in Basilicata and recently moved to Rome in the Castelli Romani area. She has been travelling since she was very young to discover inner places and places of belonging, those usually overlooked by mass tourism, in a journey of re-appropriation of her own identity and roots.

She has published texts ranging from poetry to fiction and non-fiction. Her most recent poetic works include Il gatto e la falena (Premio Parola di Donna, 2003), La ragazza con la valigia (Ed. LietoColle, 2008), Storie minime e una poesia per Rocco Scotellaro (Fara, 2009), Assolo per mia madre (L'Arca Felice, 2014), Tre fili d'attesa (plaquette d'arte edited by the LucaniArt Association, 2022).

For non-fiction and fiction he published La mongolfiera azzurra (I fiori di campo, 2002), La Madonna del Pollino. Festa e devozione popolare (Il Coscile, 2004), and in 2012 he edited the anthological volume Scrittori & Scritture - Viaggio dentro i paesaggi interiori di 26 scrittori italiani.

Her writings and critical interventions are published in catalogues, anthologies and magazines. She was recently included in the group exhibitions: Orchestra (edited by Guido Oldani, LietoColle, 2010); Il rumore delle parole - 28 poeti del Sud (edited by Giorgio Linguaglossa, EdiLet 2015); Sud - Viaggio nella poesia delle donne (edited by Bonifacio Vincenzi, Macabor, 2017); Dizionario critico della poesia italiana 1945-2020 (edited by Mario Fresa, Società Editrice Fiorentina, 2021).

With the book Storie Minime and a poem for Rocco Scotellaro in 2022 he won the Leandro Polverini National Poetry Prize for Minimalist Poetry; in 2015 the X Edition of the "Gaetano Cingari" Literary Prize; in 2014 the International Prize for Migration - Across Italy and the City of Cerchiara Literary Prize - Pearl of the Ionian Sea; in 2009 the "Tremestieri Etneo" Prize (Targa Antonio Corsaro).

He has served on several literary juries and is present in various catalogues and magazines. He has been president of the LucaniArt Cultural Association since 2007.
