Mazzoli Max

Max Mazzoli was born in Parma in 1963. He lived many years in England, first in London, where he graduated in Italian Literature and Linguistics at University College London (UCL), and where he obtained a Master's degree for teaching at the Institute of Education (University of London), then in Cambridge, where - at the University of Cambridge - he obtained a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Latin American Culture with a thesis on Pablo Neruda.  

He has taught Italian at the UCL Language Centre, King's College, Cambridge University, and MPW Cambridge.  

While remaining an Italian citizen, he obtained English citizenship. He worked for over twenty years as a teacher of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at CATS Cambridge; at Cambridge Seminars; and then at MPW Cambridge, preparing students for examinations to enter English-speaking universities.

He is currently an examiner for Cambridge Assessment and teaches English Language and Literature at the Scuola per l'Europa in Parma.

He lives between Parma and Cambridge.

He has published the following poetry collections for Book Editore:

- In La Minore (1989), a debut marked by significant critical acclaim and the attention of important poets, including Roberto Sanesi;

- Dissepolta Polvere (1992; preface by Mario Marchisio), winner of the Giacomo Citterio Città di Lodi competition (1992);

- Nella Flagranza dell'Istante (2005; with a note by Giancarlo Baroni), presented at the Italian Bookshop in London, and from which excerpts were read during Rai-Radio Uno's Zapping programme;

- L'Altra Metà del Tempo (2007), presented at the Libreria Italiana in London, and from which extracts were read by the author at the London School of Economics (LSE);

- The Bosphorus Poems / Poesie del Bosforo (2009), bilingual edition, English and Italian; winner of the San Domenichino Excellence Award (2022), and from which some extracts were read during Rai-Radio Uno's Zapping programme.

- Prima ch'io ti tocchi (100 Sonnets and a Song) / Before I May Touch You (100 Sonnets and a Song) - (2012), bilingual edition, Italian and English. Presented at the Guanda library in Parma.  

- Oltre Questi Luoghi (Spazio e Tempo di un Luogo Presente) / Beyond These Places (Space and time of a Present Place) (2014), bilingual edition, Italian and English.

He has participated in the anthologies:

- Testimonies of Poetic Voices. 22 poets in Parma (2018) Puntoacapo

- Parma Homage in verse (2021) Bertoni Editore

- Éphéméride - feuilles détachées - une anthologie (2022) Éditions Pourquoi viens-tu si tard?

He contributed one of his stories to the anthology Quando capita un treno (2017) EpiKa Edizioni.

He has completed the bilingual collections

La Latitudine del Silenzio / The Latitude of Silence.

He is currently translating into Italian a cycle of twenty of his short stories originally written in English entitled Fragili Consonanze.
