Sassoni Katia

Katia Sassoni (Bologna 1962) graduated from the Istituto Magistrale (teacher training college) with a thesis on "Teatro di Animazione" (Animation Theatre) at the Dams-Theatre Course of the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy in her city, where she currently lives.

A lover of reading since childhood, she began writing her first articles, cultural and sporting, for various local magazines at the age of 14.

At the age of 21, she won a state competition and began teaching in various primary schools in the Province of Bologna.

In 1993, in Cuba, she was an author and editor at "Radio Caimano" in Caimito.

In the same year, her first autobiographical novel, entitled La donna che rideva col naso (The Woman Who Laughed with Her Nose), was published by Pacini of Pisa, with a preface by the famous Bolognese poet Roberto Roversi, and won several Italian literary competitions, including the Sicilian National Prize for Fiction "Castagno dei Cento Cavalli" in Catania. His numerous other short stories and poems have been reported and published. He has participated in various literary events organised in Bologna, Rome and other cities.

Her second book, Ma... donne (Giraldi, Bologna), was published in 2007 and theatrically performed on the occasion of Women's Day at the Tivoli Theatre in Bologna (with positive reviews in several Italian cultural periodicals).

From June 1997 to August 2005 she worked as a librarian in the Law-Economics Specialised Library (Bologna Chamber of Commerce).

In 2013 her book Gino Doné L'Italiano del Granma was published (Massari editore). Reprinted in 2015 and presented in many Italian cities and also in Cuba, in 2016 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Granma Landing, it was translated into Spanish by the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association of Celle Ligure-Varazze, Circolo "Granma". In the same year, her collection of poems Canzoni sotto la cattedra received the 3rd place award at the "Corinna Angelucci" Poetry Competition organised by the Municipality of Trevi (Pg).
