The haiku makes reverse syllogism, does not prove but subverts every premise: in purest contemplation, in full assent that exercises no judgment, it is the trifle that makes anecdote of infinity, as in a fractal. Three verses, harmonic nod in major or minor, vibrant with unharmed joy or moaning subdued melancholy. Lyrical source vibrating on a trio of strings, while insisting in its own slenderness, and deliberately stumbling in an unexpected caesura, syncopating thought in evangelical reversal.
It is precisely here, in the paradox, that the fractured matrix resides, the surly way that digs, in a real opaque by deadly profusions, a possible opening to new subtle, signifying essences.
Silence is the circle of amazement in which each gift is carved with its enigma: fragments of inaccessible beauty, wispy hints of elevated territories, stretched to the supermundane. Formal purism is a small monastic cell, in which to wear a lyrical robe that is demure, cloistered; to say with intensity only the relevant, the winged. In the collection Il pettirosso rosso Franca Alaimo, Andrea Castrovinci Zenna, Daìta Martinez and Pietro Romano measure themselves in this test with peculiar timbres and chromaticisms (from the preface by Isabella Bignozzi).

Franca Alaimo (1947) lives and works in Palermo. She has published twenty-one other poetry collections, two of them in e-book form. She is also the author of three novels. She is featured in many national and international anthologies and blogs. Some of her texts have been published in journals, including Crocetti's Poetry and Ladolfi's Atelier, among others.
Andrea Castrovinci Zenna, born in Palermo in 1988, is a teacher of Latin and Italian in high schools. He has published two poetry syllogies: Il nome di mia madre (Ensemble, 2018) and Inverni (Terra d'ulivi, 2022). Unpublished texts and reviews have appeared in several journals in the field and in newspapers.
Daìta Martinez, born in Palermo in 1972 has published several poetry collections. She is the winner of the 2019 Macabor Prize - unpublished poetry collection section - with publication, 'a varca di zagara in Sicilian dialect. She is translated into French, Spanish, English and German.
Pietro Romano, born in Palermo in 1994, published Fra mani rifiutate (I Quaderni del Bardo, 2018) and Case sepolte (I Quaderni del Bardo, 2020, finalist for the Mauro Prestigiacomo Prize). He is translated into Russian, Greek, Catalan and Spanish, and included in the anthology The Words at This Hour (Free Poetry, 2019, edited by Paolo Galvagni). His latest collection, Wounded by Water (peQuod 2022) is part of the Portosepolto series, directed by Luca Pizzolitto.
