This latest collection, Sulle foglie (On the Leaves), is the fourth poetic work by Francesco Capaldo, a native of Salerno from Nocera Inferiore who has long been based in Florence, where he teaches and writes, also as a novelist, playwright and literary critic. In harmony and continuity with his previous books, especially the more recent La promessa del giorno (The Promise of the Day), the immediate reading impression is that of elegiac verse brushed with both rhythmic and musical lightness, creating an atmosphere that is both clear, in the environmental notations, and allusive, in the explication of sentiment. There is an expressive delicacy that is almost reticent, blurring the sensations and reflections, as in watercolour painting, diluting the individual colours in the luminosity of the whole (from Gabrio Vitali's preface).
