This volume brings together the two parts of a diptych, Fracture Compound of a Place and Fracture Compound of a Name (Ladolfi, 2019 and 2020), a shattered detective story that at first appears to be the story of a place, of a university town that "looks a lot like the map that represents it", snow-covered and finally spring-like, where the students' lives are balanced between restlessness and celebration. Then extraordinary events happen, the arrival of a great character capable of answering the most confusing questions is announced, a strange blue bird of prey peeps out every now and then, and above all, a girl mysteriously disappears.
These are basically three modulations of hope: that she answers, that it is a sign, that she returns. In this atmosphere suspended between Twin Peaks and youth, where 'everything seems to be proof of something bigger that will happen outside, outside', one then waits to find out what happened to Sabine.
The reader himself will be able to reconstruct the truth, through the three sections (The Place - The Names - The Voices), covered once and then again as if rewinding the tape. The protagonist remains the geometry of the place, which serves as a rigorous background to the human yearnings.
