Basil, Gregory of Nyssa, Ambrose, Jerome, Augustine belong to a world that is far from the needs and interests of our society 'liquid', however, dominated by the powers of economics and politics and the frenetic pace of technological acceleration. No matter if the Fathers of the Church have made a great work of resemanticization of ancient literary forms, rhetorical and philosophical, keeping alive the classical world and contributing to the formation of modernity. Their 'natural place' can only be a dusty shelves of libraries of seminaries, their 'confinement' lecture hall frequented by a very small circle of insiders and harmless.
The idea that the young students and academics may be interested and find time to read the Fathers already sounds rather strange and bucking. To share with the young people themselves the helm of a critical reflection and actualizing can border on madness. Yet, this is the way that the author and his colleagues have chosen to walk, picking up the gauntlet of a challenge that proved surprising vitality, because the dialogue with the thought of the Fathers have arisen strong provocations and interpretations for proposals interpret, live and transform our time: wealth and responsibility in the encounter with the other, opening and witness to the Truth, honesty and justice institutions, God present and future of human freedom, the newness of the Christian family and social relationships.
Who has immediately caught the novelty and the cultural value of the proposal was the Bishop of Novara Msgr. Franco Giulio Brambilla, theologian and Father of the Church today. In the "mirror" of young people, Msgr. Brambilla was able to see the fruitful interplay between the dough and the Gospel leaven of culture, the strong recovery of the memory of Christianity and the historical consciousness necessary to make it current and able to renew the Church and the world.
