The reader will find in this book a wide spectrum of what the best Italian poetry has achieved in the last twenty years.
The best known names are all, or almost all, present. Next to them are less known authors but in any case important for the understanding not only of Italian poetry, but of the world in which we live. Two or three essays have been dedicated to some poets. This choice does not intend to establish a hierarchy of values, but to express, on the part of Damiani, a subjective option, both as a particular consonance with the poets, both, and even more, as a possibility to develop better thoughts that are at heart . There is also a dialect poet, Raffaello Baldini, to whom a unique essay has been dedicated. And this, really, has an evaluative meaning. In fact, Damiani considers Raffaello Baldini the greatest Italian poet of the last decades, the most original and powerful voice, alive and at the same time unsettling. In the book there are also essays on books by essays. The danger was constituted by making the word evanescent, danger overcome by the intense participation of Damiani to the critical travails of the analyzed essayists and to the common commitment to the valorization of that good so little appreciated today that is poetry.
