Alkhazishvili Givi

Givi Alkhazishvili was born May 26, 1944 in Kutaisi. He graduated from the State University of Tbilisi, Faculty of Philology (1969).

In 1972 he published his first book after being "imprisoned" by the censors in the study of the publisher, because the anthology was deprived of Soviet theme and the author refused to write some "locomotive poetry" to please the censors. Thanks to a deputy editor, just as anti-Soviet Nika Aghiashvili that took advantage of the long absence of the Director, the book was sent urgently to the printers.

In all, he published more than 20 collections of poetry. The awards the Akaki Tsereteli State and for the book The exit from non-time have been assigned. He has published four novels: Tick or the sun ?! (1999), From Sodom Sodom (1999), On this side and beyond the iron door (2002) and The Past Future (2012).

He translated the poems of Afanasy Fet, Vladimir Solovjov, Andrei Bely, Aleksandr Blok, Wisława Szymborska.

Was critical section chief of the magazine "Tsiskari", managing editor and then director of the publishing house "Merani". He led course of literary refinement University of Culture (1998-2002).

In 2011 for the poetry collection The overthrown look inside he was awarded the prize "Saba".

His poems have been translated into Russian, English, Hungarian, Estonian, Ukrainian etc.
