Saini Fasanotti Federica

Federica Saini Fasanotti graduated in Contemporary History with a degree of 110/110 cum laude and received a PhD from the State University of Milan, with a study on the controversial relationship between Fascism and the Italian Red Cross.

After moving to Rome, she began actively working with the Historical Offices of the Italian Army and Defense and, under the supervision of Professor Melograni, developed for Rai Trade the series La Storia del Fascismo and La Seconda Guerra Mondiale, distributed by "Il Corriere della Sera." She worked with Terna Group as a security advisor in the Maghreb area and from 2016 to 2023 she was non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington. Back in Milan, she has also been a senior associate for ISPI since 2019.

She has specialized in military history and counterguerrilla doctrine, publishing numerous scholarly essays on the subject. In January 2020, she published with the prestigious U.S. Naval Institute a text on tactics and strategies used by the Royal Italian Army in Libya and Ethiopia during the years of fascism. Her latest study on the history of Western counterinsurgency doctrine from the 17th century to the present day came out in February 2022 with the Army General Staff Historical Office.

This background has enabled her to become one of the leading voices on contemporary Libya, and for that, in September 2016, she was called to testify before the U.S. Congress on terrorist movements in Libya, while in 2017 she served as a private consultant to U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis at the Pentagon.
