L'INFORMATORE: Bianca Garavelli breaks up in nine - interview

Now available the book of short stories "The darkness of the angels," short treatise on moral philosophy

Garavelli

Next Monday, June 17, at 18.15, at the Feltrinelli bookshop in Piazza Ducale, will be the presentation of the new book titled White Garavelli L'oscurità-of-angels. We took the opportunity to ask some anticipation to the author. Where did the idea of a book of short stories, after a successful novel as "The Triplets of Dante lost"?

I've always written stories, even while writing texts: long, like novels. I like to think that it has entered into a great literary tradition, with teachers who I love very much and I started to read many years ago: first Edgar A. Poe, with his "Tales of Mystery," which I discovered during adolescence, and is one of the most important examples of writers of short stories in American literature. Then the Italian Dino Suzzati, a great creator of atmosphere disturbing. Another example is Italo Calvino. who wrote short stories also within frames reassessing the value of the unit-burning synthesis, where whole lives are concentrated in a few pages-. So this book is a break between a novel and the other?

"In a way, yes: in this case the occasion was created by an editor very refined, Giuliano Ladolfi. I share the love of poetry and literature from this publisher, enthusiasm, respect for books, which never considers a "product". He wanted to publish my book for the Turin Motor Show and I reworked some of the stories that I had already written, especially "The friend of Ariadne." This story deals with long-more than half the book. The other eight were "scattered" on daily newspapers. One is completely meditate, another is a special case: it is "Trains", released in 2008 in the Spanish translation. " There are common themes in these nine tales? «1 issues a whole can be considered a small treatise on moral philosophy: the loss of loved ones, the difficult dialogue between people who love each other, and the theme of the second possibility, which in my life reserves, even when it seems have us believe that there is no more time, or solutions to problems. In a word, the angelic, of which we can all be bearers, as we can all be angels, even if only once in a lifetime. With openings toward metaphysics and the size of the afterlife, especially in the ninth story, whose main character Dante and the legend that. after death, appeared in a dream to a friend to reveal where they had hidden the last thirteen cantos of Paradise. "

Angels missed and without wings, but with a light of hope

Angels do not have wings, which does not shine with divine light, but live our own lives and how we are immersed in the everyday world. These are the "Angels with a dark side" of the White Garavelli, scattered in the nine stories in the book: starting from '"angel missed" the longest story, which opens it, "The friend of Arianna": precisely the female lead , Arianna's title, which they can not escape from the depths of his shadow, until other people especially women who develop all, each in a different way, angelic qualities. They range from the mother who is able to communicate with his son from the dead, all'imprenditrice that uplifts his company, against all reasonable expectation, listening to a "voice" mysterious "deep yet soft, feminine", the little girl who lives his initiation into adulthood through love for swifts, symbol of beauty full of life, destined to vanish. But, again, with a light of hope, an opening towards a possible bright future: life does not preclude anybody a second chance, the author seems to say. The cover perfectly reflects this point of view, created for the book by the young artist Calabrian case of continuous De Sarro, it offers a concise interpretation, emphasizing the two to aspects of fascination and unease.
