In a historical period of political crisis and perhaps of democracy itself, it may be useful to recall the underlying reasons for our civil coexistence.
The work intends to briefly dwell on the "Fundamental Principles" of our Constitutional Charter and, at the same time, try to make some mention of the historical, political and cultural process that led to their formation.
The Introduction, after having illustrated the concept of "constitution" in essential terms, reminds us that the roots of our Republican Constitution lie in the Resistance.
The text then tries to highlight, also through some references to the debate that has developed in the constituency, how the definition of the "Principles" promptly responds to the need to give life, after the dictatorship of fascism, to a democratic state.
The founding values ​​of the republic - centrality of the person, freedom, equality, solidarity, pluralism, secularism, internationalist ideals, pacifism - clearly show its structural opposition to the fascist conception of the state and the will to build relations between the men and between states.
