The first collection of the work of Eduard Šnejderman (1936-2012), a prolific Russian poet who was very active in the Soviet underground of the 1970s and 1980s, is presented to the Italian reader. We attempt to render the great stylistic variety of this author, who ranged from lyric poetry to satire, from free verse to rhyme, from high style to babbling roars.
Eduard Šnejderman was born in 1936 in Leningrad. He wrote for the underground typewritten magazines "Časy", "Obvodnyj kanal", "Topka", for the collected volumes Galereja [Gallery] (1981), Antologija sovetskoj patologii [Anthology of Soviet Pathology] (1964), U goluboj laguny [At the Blue Lagoon] (1985).
From 1963 to 1993 he prepared 25 typewritten poetry collections, including Šabaš [Enough] (1963), Zacholon' [Petrified] (1965), Gorodskie skazki [Town Fables] (1977), Vse moi poemy: 10 poem za 20 let [All my poems: 10 poems in 20 years] (1978).
In March 1981, he took part in negotiations with the KGB and the Writers' Union for the establishment of 'Klub-81', a famous unofficial poetry group, in which he then actively participated.
His poetry collections include: Svalka [The Dump] (1994), Gody svin'i [The Pig Years] (1999), Bol'šaja kniga dvornika [The Big Book of the Garbage Collector] (2001), Stichokollaži [Versicollage] (2004), Osjazanie [The Touch] (2009).
He died in 2012 in Israel.
