"Death comes from the East" is the painful leitmotif that anchors this work, like the previous two Vers l'Est and Foudroyer le soleil, in the torments of history. Auschwitz and the Gulag caught the writer in the trap of a maternal and paternal heritage that seriously wounded him at the age of twelve and left him bloodless.
Denis Emorine's work, and in particular Comme le vent dans les arbres, cannot be understood without knowing the sources of his writing. For this writer, Russia, never named, was once referred to by the periphrastic expression "the great frozen country". Russia has become "the land of machine guns", the country that is ravaging Ukraine in the name of an absurd common identity belied by history (Igor Zourine).
"La morte viene dall'Est", a dolorous leitmotif percorre quest'opera come le due precedenti Vers l'Est et Foudroyer le soleil nei tormenti della Storia. Auschwitz e il Gulag hanno intrappolato lo scrittore in un'eredità materna e paterna che lo ha gravemente ferito all'età di dodici anni lasciandolo dissanguato.
You cannot understand Denis Emorine's work, and in particular Come il vento tra gli alberi, without knowing the foundations of his writing. There was a time when he referred to Russia, which may have been named, by a perifrastic expression "il grande Paese ghiacciato". Russia has become "the land of the mitragliatrici", which is devastating Ucraina in the name of an assurda identità comune smentita dalla Storia.
