It is not at all easy to follow the alienating contrast of this 'foreigner', deeply in love with life, but also sadly disappointed at not finding a homeland, an ubi consistam, on which to build a meaning to existence.
The human being of the year 2000 still finds himself torn between spleen and idéal (Baudelaire), with no 'place' in which to feel 'at home'. In spite of technological and scientific progress, in spite of social achievements and in spite of well-being, our society has still not found the meaning of its temporary stay on this planet and continues to wander in the universe, clinging to ephemeral values in search of an impossible happiness.
